Mr. Mcgillicuddy is the coach of the IA Quiz Bowl team. Quiz bowl is a competition between two teams of 5 or 4 people in Georgia. Each match has approximately 20 questions. They use a buzzer system, so if you buzz first, you get to answer first and lock out for everyone else. If you answer the question wrong, you lose points. Whereas if you answer correctly, you may get 3 bonus questions asked and awarded points. Questions range from literature, geography, history, and science. Occasionally, there are a few on sports, music, or pop culture. The team with the most points at the end will win.
The IA Quiz Bowl team has won three tournaments at different places and got second and third in others. They won a winter open tournament in the JV division. They also competed in the varsity state championship and won in their division. The team has a total of 6 trophies.
The team is in need of more female representation. There is currently only one girl on the team. They also need people who are good at fine arts and literature. There will be tryouts for the team next year in the fall. It will most likely take 2 days and have a written test, as well as a buzzer test.
