Alina Vennel is an 11th grader in the Engineering pathway. She has recently become a finalist for the Women in Technology Award. Women in Technology (WIT) has the aim of advancing women in technology from the classroom to the boardroom. It meets its vision through leadership development, technology education, networking, and mentoring opportunities for women at all levels of their careers. Female high school students that show exemplary passion in technology are eligible for the award after completing a rigorous selection process including essay writing and an interview.

Alina’s contributions and efforts to empower women led to her nomination: she started the Women in Technology chapter at IA, and she has been working with two other clubs focusing on similar goals: GISAP and Girl Up. Alina was recognized as Girl Of The Year for helping empower young women in STEM and engaging with the Women in Technology community for several years. Out of 200 nominees, Alina was selected as a finalist. Let’s all wish her a good luck in hopes she wins the award!
