Happy Friday IA Families,

I’m always happy to put another successful week in the book.

I just have a few things to touch on this week.

First I wanted to take a moment to let you know how incredibly well your students did last week during the Shelter-in-place event. I’m never going to be happy to call for students to shelter in place, but I was very happy with how attentive and mature all of our students were during the event. It’s good to know that when we have to react to an emergency, our students will handle it well.

I’d also like to respond to several inquiries I have had about retention at IA. This is a question that I suspect will come up year after year, as we continue to develop our community and expectations for students. We have far fewer students deciding to leave than what I have heard from rumors in the community. Below you can see the withdrawal rates from both last year and this year. Keep in mind that this year we have 50% more students than we did last year, but our withdrawal rate was almost half compared to a year ago.

While I am happy that our retention rate is so high, it pains me to see any student feel like IA isn’t the right school for them. We’ll continue to work with students, parents, and teachers to ensure we have the best school experience for all our students.

Throughout this semester, we’ll continue to have discussions with students and parents to dial in our efforts to make sure students feel welcome and successful at IA.

Please remember to make my plunge worth the effort. I’m almost half way to my goal. If any parents would like to join me in the plunge, you can donate $50 to jump yourself! I hear it’s good for you, but read this article before jumping.

Finally, there are still seats left if you’d like to join us for the Spotlight On Human Trafficking Summit our Interact students are presenting with Alpharetta Rotary. Our keynote speaker will be First Lady Marty Kemp. This issue is very serious and affects all of our communities.

Have a great weekend!
