Mathieu Dahan, an industrial and systems engineering professor from Georgia Tech, visited our math classes. Students were introduced to industrial engineering and the many ways it can be applied to the three pathways and the world around them. Students worked in groups to solve an optimization problem: how can we maximize profit?

As Dr. Dahan discussed ideas with classes, students were encouraged to demonstrate their thinking through mathematical models. Dr. Dahan then demonstrated how a programming language like Python can be used to solve the same problem on a larger scale. It was a fantastic way for students to see how the worlds of mathematics, science, and coding are intertwined!
