Innovation Academy STEM students learn about an amazing woman of STEM through ACT1’s production of Silent Sky.

Silent Sky, by Lauren Gunderson, focuses on the life of Henrietta Leavitt, who was hired by Harvard College Observatory at the turn of the last century to do work that was considered “secretarial” and how, despite the limited opportunities presented to her, she discovered a vastly better way to measure the distance of stars that greatly enhanced scientists’ ability to understand the universe. Innovation Academy focuses on exploration and innovation, so the play is a perfect opportunity for STEM students to experience the human side of science and innovation.

IA students will also have an amazing opportunity to experience the art of theater, and our newly established drama club members will learn about producing a live theater performance, running of sound and lights, and the engineering behind stage design. Additionally, Pam Duncan, Silent Sky’s director, is mentoring FCSIA students who want to learn more about directing.

Silent Sky run:

Fridays, Saturdays @ 8:00PM & Sundays at 2;00pm | March 10th through 26th in the  FCS Innovation Academy Auditorium – 125 Milton Ave., Alpharetta, GA 30009.  (please park in the back parking lot)

Tickets are $20-$25 and are available on ACT1’s website, act1theater.org.
