Flex Fridays

While Flex Friday has provided some great opportunities for our students to dig deeper into their interests, there have been a few concerns about the additional workload that sometimes spills into the weekend.  I thought I would take this opportunity to provide a little clarification.  Each student should only have three mandatory Flex Fridays to attend this semester, meaning that only three weekends could be impacted by Flex Friday.  Secondly, the CTAE pathways do not launch asynchronous lessons on Flex Fridays and virtual classes offer flexibility to be completed anytime so most students have to focus on 4-5 classes.  The lessons are shorter and should average 30 minutes each to complete.  On Flex Fridays students are given a 90 minute lunch and an hour at the end of the day to work on their lessons.  A student who utilizes their time on Friday, should have minimal week-end work created from Flex Fridays.

Exciting Opportunities here at IA

The other day I toured a partner through the building, we observed four boys delivering a baby with our new birthing manikin while 6 other students were performing a tracheotomy nearby.  We asked all the students their post-secondary goals and all of them rattled off 10 different health related careers.  We were all impressed and knew this doesn’t happen at other schools.

Thanks for your continued support,

Tim Duncan
