A Q&A with Laura Taylor, our math department chair.
How long have you been teaching? Nine Years
How do you feel about teaching and supporting students:
I am passionate about education and everything that comes along with being a teacher. I teach math–and math is important–but I also love the aspect of my job that involves teaching students how to be well-rounded and contributing members to their community. I enjoy making the connections between the math I am teaching in my classroom and the real world problems people are facing.
What is unique about your teaching style? This year, I have begun to introduce the Design Thinking process to my students and how we can use that process to learn and solve anything! Through empathy, understanding, ideating, prototyping and testing, I hope my students will become critical thinkers and use these skills beyond high school.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I used to have a cooking blog called “Cooking From the Heart” that was inspired by both of my grandmothers’ recipes!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I love to cook, play tennis and travel to Auburn Football games with my family!
