What is your background and how long have you been in education?

This is my first year working in Education, my entire career has been in Hospitality Industry and Customer Service.

However, My education journey started when my first child was enrolled in Pre K 15 years ago, while living in Dallas Texas, and I started to volunteer at my kids schools ever since, as a translator and interpreter for the Hispanic and latino parents that does not speak English.

Can you tell us more about your role at Innovation Academy?

I am the Bilingual Community Liaison,  by being fluent in Spanish and English I serve as a bridge to close the gaps in communication between parents and students with School Personnel.  My main focus is to help parents feel welcome to the Innovation Academy, to help them realize the important role they play in helping their children to achieve their goals. By being involved in the school life and by being present and active with the school,  the growth and results their children have growths exponentially. The other part of my role is to support Spanish speaking students to communicate and better understand what they need to successfully navigate the school system and graduate. In case they need assistance with translations when they have a counselor meeting or any other School personnel, I’ll be more than happy to assist them.

Tell us something about yourself that people at work wouldn’t or don’t already know.

On top of Spanish and English I also speak French, but I have to recognize it’s quite rusty. Our home is a multicultural one, my husband Japanese heritage and my Mexican roots have our kids interested in the cultures of the world, in our little private universe we have 6 languages around us all the time:  English, French, German, Spanish a little Japanese and my daughter is now studying Mandarin.
