Happy Friday IA families,

Thank you for your support for our Intruder Drill today. It is surreal that we find ourselves in a world where they are necessary. While the likelihood of an intruder at IA is small, it is important for us to be prepared. Please take the time to talk to your students about their emotions around this drill. It’s important to give them space to share their concerns and fears.

Today was our first healthcare Friday of the year, and I have to say it was fantastic. I was able to walk through several of the sessions today, and students were participating in some very cool activities. Some were dissecting squids, while others were discussing elements of medical ethics, and even more were designing an ideal blood drive using Design Thinking. It’s great to see the kids engaged and excited about their activities.

Next week, our ninth grade students will participate in the Signs of Suicide assembly. Signs of Suicide Prevention program is currently implemented in all Fulton County middle and high schools. The SOS program is the only youth suicide prevention program that has demonstrated an improvement in students’ knowledge and adaptive attitudes about suicide risk and depression, as well as a reduction in actual suicide attempts.  This assembly will take place on Wednesday, September 27th for our ninth graders during lunch, and we know that students may want to discuss this at home with you afterwards or beforehand.

The district has some helpful resources and information here: https://www.fultonschools.org/Page/24373

If you ever have any concerns about the well-being of your students please do not hesitate to reach out for support.
