Happy Friday everyone!

It was a great first week.

The freshmen are settling in, and our upper classmen have done a great job welcoming our new class. I have to admit I was nervous with 400 new students coming on campus, but students have handled themselves well, and things are running smoothly.

I’d like to thank Ms. Lundy and counseling team for their hard work to ensure schedules are accurate and classes are balanced. It is a Herculean task to manage changes to schedules from students who took classes in summer school or request course changes, but our scheduling team has done a great job keeping class sizes balanced and small.

As your students ramp up their academic year, please remind them that we are focused at IA on authentic learning. This means being able to apply the knowledge they learn in their classes. This means we want them to have the intellectual humility and curiosity to ask questions, be willing to share with teachers when they don’t understand, and take chances. IA students are used to having the right answers, and we will challenge them with harder questions and topics, so it is easy for them to get discouraged. Please have conversations with them about their willingness to be learners. Our teachers know this is a learning process, so they work with students as they rise to the challenge, but it’s good for students to know their parents are supportive of them being humble learners.

Finally, I want to remind everyone to look out for parent meetings for each class. These can be found in the Beacon. These meetings will provide parents information for their specific grade levels.

The first meeting will be on 8/16 for our 9th grade parents to help them understand the unique scheduling we have at IA.

Thank you for your support.

Scott Kent
