Innovation Academy student, Lawson Salinas, worked on the research topic “The Dangers of Augmented Reality and How to Mitigate Them.” There wasn’t a definitive list of negative effects that augmented reality could cause in a compiled fashion, so he decided to compile one by creating an outline for an experiment on how to test the use of augmented reality to limit the dangers presented. This was inspired by his selection of the IT Pathway and his time spent in AP Psychology. This background and prior knowledge helped him navigate the complexities of the project and gave him a thorough foundation for the project as well.

One of his favorite parts to work with was the actual compilation of the negative effects presented by augmented reality as many sources have different opinions on how augmented reality actually affects the brain. Because there were many problems with the physical world, mental health, security measures, and legal measures, all these were fascinating to investigate and learn more about.

One of the most challenging parts of the experiment was to actually design the experiment to fit the general guideline provided in the class. Accounting for the selected variables and the variables that could potentially make the entire experiment invalid was also necessary, which further added to the complexity of the research.
