Meet Priscilla Pappo, our school nurse:

How long have you been working in education?

17 years… I worked as a pre-school teacher at a private school for 4 years, in the clinic at State Bridge Crossing ES for 6 years, then moved on to Autrey Mill MS and now I am at Innovation Academy.

Something you enjoy doing in your spare time.

I am very big into music and attend as many outdoor music concerts as I can ( hated Covid for all the cancelations!!) My favorite band is a band my son is currently playing with. I rarely miss his gigs! I enjoy walking in nature, yoga, reading, patio herb gardening, and eating dinners with the entire family.

How do you feel about teaching/supporting students?

When students come to me with an injury or illness it can be as simple as giving them a band aid or sending them home if they feel bad. However, I do have students who come in feeling so overwhelmed with school and home that they just want to sit in a quiet space and rest. I also have had some students who come in to vent and just need someone to listen with compassion and without judgment. I come to work every day not knowing who will walk through my door, but I am grateful that can make a difference big or small..

Something unique about your teaching/working style?

My working style is focusing on wellness. I love to teach students aboutd health prevention and staying well, through sleep, nutrition, fitness, and living a balance life.

Something most people don’t know about you?

Born raised in Sacramento CA, I moved to the south a few days before the big San Francisco earthquake hit. I witnessed it on TV during the 1989 World Series ( Atlanta vs Giants). I have been married 29 years and I have 3 kids: Gabrielle-24, Jacob-21, Noah-19 and Tiki-12 (fur kid). I have lived in Johns Creek since 2001. I have always wanted to be a librarian or a teacher, but I chose nursing instead ( KSU grad). I worked as a RN in women’s health before coming to the school. I am an avid thrifter before it became “the Cool” thing to do. I am all about finding those amazing hidden gems and reusing/repurposing!
